Hey, you have found this secret page!

This animation is a simple two-dimensional simulation of the acoustic wave propagation of a monopole point source (on the left) and a dipole point source (on the right) in water. Key parameters of the simulation are as follows.

Medium property

  • The whole domain is filled with water: speed of sound 1500 m/s, density 1000 kg/m3.

Source property

  • Monopole: frequency 250 kHz, amplitude 2 Pa, active for 8 cycles per pulse
  • Dipole: frequency 250 kHz, amplitude 2 Pa, active for 8 cycles per pulse

It is fun to see how waves interfere with each other and form new patterns as they propagate, and think about how these signals can be recorded and reconstructed.

Simulation created using k-Wave in MATLAB.
